The Problem

Malibu Blinds faced challenges with brand visibility and generating a consistent flow of new leads.

Their website was outdated, with broken links and slow loading speeds, making it difficult to rank on search engines amidst ongoing Google updates.

They had previously worked with a marketing agency but found them unresponsive and unsupportive.

In an attempt to solve the problem themselves, they tried social media posts and boosting them, but these efforts did not yield results.

With declining revenue and the necessity of closing their blinds showroom, Malibu Blinds was at risk of shutting down completely.

Faced with this critical situation, they turned to me for help after hearing about my marketing work through a family referral.

First Steps

The first step was to understand the competitive landscape.

I conducted thorough competitor research to identify what other blinds companies were doing in the area. This helped determine how to differentiate Malibu Blinds effectively.

Using the insights gained from this research, I started by designing a modern, responsive website.

The goal was not only to create an aesthetically appealing site but also to make it functional and optimised for conversions.

I utilised SEMrush to identify low-competition keywords that would allow Malibu Blinds to rank more easily on search engines.

I then implemented an aggressive blogging strategy to target these keywords, aiming to increase organic traffic.

However, the results from SEO were taking longer to materialise than expected.

So to accelerate lead generation, I decided to implement a Google Ads campaign.

The first week was slow, producing only 1 conversion.

To address this, I used Hotjar to analyse user behaviour on the website through heatmaps.

This data revealed friction points and areas for improvement.

I made optimisation tweaks to the website, refined the ad copy, and adjusted the offer to make it more appealing.

These adjustments led to a substantial improvement, resulting in 31 new project inquiries within five months.

Next Steps & Results

After achieving the initial results, the next objective was to maximise performance while maintaining cost-efficiency.

With a limited budget of $10 per day, it was essential to keep the cost per conversion as low as possible.

I continuously refined the ad copy and experimented with new offers to optimise performance.

This strategic approach allowed the campaign to achieve high efficiency, maximising the return on investment despite the tight budget.

The impact was significant.

The website, which had previously been inactive, saw a 281,100% increase in traffic, rising from zero to 2,811 visitors.

This traffic increase translated into a consistent flow of leads, significantly enhancing Malibu Blinds’ online presence.

In addition to increasing visibility and lead generation, the campaign also reduced the cost per conversion, making the marketing strategy more sustainable.

Malibu Blinds no longer needed to rely solely on referrals, providing them with greater control over their business growth.

The success of the campaign was positively received by Eric (the founder), who expressed his satisfaction through personal feedback. - "Will! I am extremely happy and proud that you are my nephew🙏🏾❤️ God bless and prosper all your hard work."

Conclusion

Malibu Blinds successfully addressed its challenges with brand visibility and lead generation through a strategic combination of competitor research, SEO, Google Ads, and continuous optimisation.

This approach allowed them to enhance their online presence, generate a steady flow of new leads, and reduce the cost per conversion, all within a limited budget.

This case study demonstrates how strategic digital marketing can effectively solve visibility and lead generation challenges, even for businesses operating with modest resources.

If you are in the blinds industry and looking to improve your online presence and lead generation, this approach could be the one you've been wishing for.
